Garage Door Opener and Types
Garage doors are common, if not integral part of every household. Nowadays, it is very rare to see a house without a single garage door. As a customary fixture of every household, it is not surprising to know that there seems to be an endless plethora of garage door openers available in the market today. To know which garage door opener is most appropriate for your garage door, it would help to be acquainted with the different types of garage door openers sold or custom-built to suit client's specifications.
Depending on the drive system, there are 3 general types of garage door openers:
- Chain-drive system
This type of garage door opener uses steel chain to lift or lower down the garage door. Chain-drive openers are inexpensive and more popular, but the downside is that it is too noisy.
- Belt-drive system
This type uses strong rubber belt to raise the door. As such, it operates smoothly and quietly, and as expected, is more inexpensive than other types of openers.
- Screw-drive system
The term used is actually a misnomer because this type of opener actually uses a steel rod that resembles a giant screw, to raise the door. More unpopular than other types of openers, screw-drive mechanisms move slowly and work best with one-panel doors that incline on one side when opened.
It becomes unimportant which type of opener is used as long as it gives you the ease and convenience of not having to get in and out of your car to open the garage door.
